OnePlus has unveiled a sneak peek of its upcoming foldable phone exclusively to the Unbox Therapy YouTube channel, even before its official launch.
This revelation came through a video uploaded on Monday.
During the video, Lewis Hilsenteger, the host of Unbox Therapy, engaged in a conversation with Pete Lau, the founder of OnePlus and current Chief Product Officer of Oppo.
The standout feature of this unnamed folding phone lies in its remarkable flat-folding capability.
According to Lau, OnePlus has secured 35 patents associated with the innovative hinge design of this new foldable phone.
These patents collectively aim to reduce its weight and size while enhancing its durability.
Demonstrations showcased that the fold was firm enough to securely hold a sheet of paper, demonstrating the substantial strength of the hinge even while bearing the phone's weight.
Furthermore, based on leaks and rumours, let's get into anticipated features and specifications that the OnePlus foldable phone may incorporate.
The OnePlus Open is shaping up to be a flagship device with impressive specifications.
It is expected to sport a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED display on the inside, complemented by a 6.3-inch AMOLED screen on the front.
Both screens are likely to support a 120Hz refresh rate, with potential differences in their minimum refresh rates depending on the LTPO technology used.
According to information from tipster Digital Chat Station on August 22, the OPPO Find N3, expected to launch as the OnePlus Open outside China, could have the highest pixel density among folding screens.
The device is rumoured to feature a 7.82-inch folding screen with a resolution of 2,268 × 2,440 and a 6.31-inch smartphone display with a resolution of 2,484 x 1,116.
Performance-wise, the OnePlus Open is rumoured to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and a generous 16GB of RAM.
While the leaked specs mention 256GB of internal storage, other storage options may also be available.
The device may come equipped with a 4,800mAh battery and support 67W fast charging, although wireless charging is not confirmed until the official launch.
In terms of camera capabilities, the OnePlus Open could feature a 48MP primary sensor, a 48MP ultrawide sensor, and a 64MP telephoto camera sensor.
Additionally, the cover screen might house a 32MP front camera for selfies, while the inside screen could offer a 20MP selfie snapper.
OnePlus has yet to disclose specific details about the launch of the OnePlus Open, but it has confirmed that the release will happen very soon.
Pete Lau, the founder of OnePlus and SVP and CPO of OPPO, has officially affirmed that the OnePlus Open and OPPO Find N3 are identical devices.
Both brands intend to unveil the phone simultaneously.
Initially, a leak on July 13 from tipster Max Jambor pointed to an August 26 launch date for the OnePlus foldable.
However, a more recent rumour suggests that OnePlus postponed the launch due to display-related issues.
Additionally, another well-known tipster mentioned that the delay of the OnePlus Open was linked to OPPO's ongoing patent dispute with Nokia.
Now, it seems that Max Jambor has a new potential launch date in mind.
According to this tipster, the OnePlus Open is anticipated to be launched on October 19, adding to an already packed month in terms of smartphone releases.
The phone is expected to have a global launch, including availability in markets such as the US, India, and the UK.
